Shopping for Your Marketing Team - Sutton Creative Studios
This past weekend I had an interesting Facebook exchange in response to a post I had sponsored. The topic was social media marketing, and the gentleman said my post sounded like a scam. In the end, he said he doesnt shop for his marketing team on Facebook, to which I responded to make sure his marketing team knows how to use social media for themselves before he asks them to do it for him. Shopping for your marketing team should never be handled lightly, however just as I told this gentleman, make sure they know social media before paying a retainer. Want to know what to look for, social media wise, when shopping for your marketing team? Read on!

The topic was social media marketing, and the gentleman said my post sounded like a scam. In the end, he said he doesnt shop f or his marketing team on Facebook, to which I responded to make sure his marketing team knows how to use social media f or themselves bef ore he asks them to do it f or him. Shopping for your marketing team should never be handled lightly, however just as I told this gentleman, make sure they know social media before paying a retainer. Want to know what to look for, social media wise, when shopping for your marketing team? Read on! Klout Bef ore you hire any marketing f irm, be sure to check their Klout score on klout.com. To sum up Klout f or you, it is the amount of inf luence a person or organization has in social media. Ranging f rom 1-100, I recommend hiring a f irm with a score of 40 or above. In all honesty, 40 is still low, however a company can be doing a great job on social media and not have the f ollowers to rank higher. (As of the writing of this article, Sutton Creative Studios has a Klout score of 49.) Blog - Does the marketing f irm you are considering have a blog? Are they using it? A blog is a great way to f ind out if the f irm you are checking out is knowledgable and experienced. Blogs are a great way to prove expertise, and if the marketing f irm doesnt have one, chances are they wont encourage you to have one as well. (We started the Sutton Creative Studios blog when we started our business in September 2012. While we have had several slow months, it is usually because we are wrapped up with keeping our clients blogs updated!) LinkedIn EVERY company needs a LinkedIn business page, including yours and your marketing f irms. If any marketing agency tells you dif f erent they are clearly not up on all the latest SEM (search engine marketing) tools and techniques. LinkedIn prof iles and business pages rank high on Google search engine results. Why would you want to leave yourself of f the f ront page by leaving this valuable platf orm of f your social media marketing plan? Twitter - Even if your business isnt winding up in the headlines like Miley Cyrus due to angry tweets, and even if you dont plan on tweeting regularly, your business still needs a Twitter account. Why? Because it can be synced with your blog, Facebook and Pinterest accounts, to name a f ew. Even if youre not using the Twitter interf ace, you can still be tweeting just by having your accounts linked to one another. Do we recommend stopping at linked tweeting? NO! But if youre not going to use the account in any other way, something (is sometimes) better than nothing. Shopping f or your marketing team can be stressf ul, especially considering you are spending money f or these people to bring you money. Not only does Sutton Creative Studios have a well-established social media marketing and management team, we are also staf f ed with virtual assistants to help you f ind a specialized marketing team in your niche f ield.
