Badgingisanexcitingnewplatformforourcommunity.Digitalbadgesareahighlyvisible waytodocumentincremental,lifelonglearning.Theycanalsobeusedtorecognize professionalengagementandachievements. Asanonprofitassociationofhighereducationprofessionals,weawardbadgesin5badge categoriescloselyalignedwithourprofessionaldevelopmentandcommunityengagement portfolios: Communications; communityservice; leadershipdevelopmentprograms; leadershipawards;and subjectmatterdevelopment. 11 12. Weranbadgingpilotsin2013andlaunched a fullprogramin2014.We issued 2,654 badgesin2014,42%ofwhichwereaccepted(overallaverage). Thiswasa6%increase overthe2013badgepilotaverageacceptancerateof36%, whichwasanencouraging signal. Acceptancerateisthebest metricwecurrentlyhave butitsnotperfect.Acceptancerate isinfluencedbymarketingandcommunications,andeducationorcommunity,whichmay varywidely. Oneofthedownsidestobeinganearlyadopteristhelackexternalcomparativedataby whichtohelpassessourprogram.Asthefieldofbadgingmatures,sowillthemetricsand analyticsthatcanhelpdirectbadgingprogramdevelopment. Pleasekeepinmindthat programdataarepreliminaryandforarapidlyemergingfield. 12 13. Badgeactivity isanothermetric availabletous. EDUCAUSEbadgeactivityisdefinedasthe totalnumberoftimesabadgeisseen,clicked,sharedorviewedacrossCredlyandallOpen Creditenabledappsandsites.Itisametricforbadgeimpact;ameasureofimpressions made. Badgeactivityincreasedfromlessthan24,000inFebruary2014tomorethan359,000 badgeimpressionsbyJune15,2015. Duringthattime,quantityofbadgesissuedalso increased onamuchsmallermargin(from1,300in2013pilotstonearly5,000,mid2015). EDUCAUSEbadgeactivityinprofessionalnetworkingspace(i.e.LinkedIn)increasedfrom 74%to88%inthatsametimeframe. Wedontrelyonthismetricasanindicatorofprogramsuccessbut wedomonitoritand considerthepotentialforbrandrecognition. 13 14. InApril2015,theCenterforAssociationLeadership(ASAE) awardedEDUCAUSEtheGold CircleAward forNewProduct/ServiceLaunchCampaignforthedigitalbadgingprogram. ASAErepresentsmorethan21,000associationexecutivesandindustrypartners representingmorethan9,300organizations. EDUCAUSEwasselectedfromamong193entrantstothecompetition.Judgingcriteria includedprogramstrategy,execution,results,acalltoactionandcreativity. Theawardisimportantrecognitionforasuccessfulprogramlaunchatatimewhenvery fewassociationswereimplementingbadgingformembers. 16 17. 17 18.
