    ThisspecialCSRinitiativehasbeenanongoingactivityatKPTLsince2004.

    Aims&ObjectiveTobringawareness specially to theyounggenerationandalso tobringabouta senseofresponsibility and belonging towards Nature (Nature it encompasses all the basicelementsoflifesuchasearth,water,air,jungle,animals,plantsandecologicalsystem).

    Whyaretigersimportant?Whyshouldwesavethem?

    Tigersareadmiredbymanypeople.Thebigcatisrevered,admiredandfearedinequalparts,bymillionsofpeoplearoundtheworld.Ifforestsareemptiedofeverylasttiger,allthatwillremainaredistantlegends,zoosightings,andonemassivebreachoftrust.

    Ahomefortigersmeansahomeforothers.With justone tiger,weprotectaround25,000acresof forest.Tosave tigers,weneed toprotecttheforesthabitatsacrossAsiawherethey live.Bysavingtheseplaces,wewillnotonlyallowtigerstoroamfreely,butalsomanyotherendangeredspeciesthatlivethereandformtheverythingthatmakesourplanetuniquebiodiversity

  • Healthytigerpopulationsequalshealthyecosystems.As a largepredator, the tiger plays a key role inmaintaining healthy ecosystems. Theseecosystems supply both nature and people with fresh water, food, and health whichmeansbysavingthetiger,wearehelpingpeopletoo.

    Tigershaveapositiveeffectoncommunities.Tigers can directly help some of the worlds poorest communities. Where tigers exist,tourists go. And where tourists go, money can be made by communities with fewalternatives for making a living. Tiger conservation projects also help provide otheralternative livelihoods for rural communities thatarenotonlymore sustainable,but canraiseincomelevelstoo.Tigersarestronganddetermined.The tiger has evolved over thousands of years. Currently this big cat is being trapped,skinnedandpushedoutofitshome.Thoseleftinthewildclingtosurvival,barely,inafewpatchesofforestscatteredacrossAsia.

    Wildtigernumbersareatanalltimelow.ThelargestofalltheAsianbigcatsmaybeontopofthefoodchainandoneofthemostculturallyimportantandbestlovedanimals,buttheyarealsovulnerabletoextinction.Tigersareforcedtocompeteforspacewithdensehumanpopulations,faceunrelentingpressurefrompoaching,retaliatorykillingsandhabitatlossacrosstheirrange.

    We can savewild tigers.We are concentrating our efforts on protecting key landscapeswherethebigcatshavethebestchanceofsurvivingandincreasingoverthelongterm.Fivedecades of conservation experience has shown us that given enough space, prey andprotection,tigerscanrecover.

    Bysavingtigers,wealsosavethebiologicallyrichanddiverse landscapeswheretheystillroam Indias lastgreat rain forests, junglesandwild lands.These forestsarehome tothousandsofotherspecies,peopleandthefood,freshwaterandfloodprotectionthatlocalcommunitiesneedtosurvive.

    Subspecies

    Threetigersubspecies theBali,Javan,andCaspian havebecomeextinct inthepast70years.ThesixremainingsubspeciesAmur,Bengal,Indochinese,Malayan,SouthChina,andSumatranliveonlyinAsia,andallarethreatenedbypoachingandhabitatloss.

  • WhyKPTLhaschosenTigerinitsCSRActivity?AmongstAsiancountriesoutofapopulationof3200 tigersapproximately60% tigersareresiding in India. We, at KPTL, have embarked upon a humble initiative to contributewhateverwecanbymeansavailableatourdisposaltotheoverallcampaigninIndiatoSaveTiger.WearegoingaboutthistaskbycoveringtheRural&UrbanIndiawiththemessageofSaveTiger.TheverynatureofpipelineconstructionactivityinvolvessustainedinteractionwiththeRural Indiaandeducatingthemthe importanceofnatureandspreadingawarenessofitsexistence.TheUrbanIndiawithitsyounggenerationiscoveredbyallkindofactivitiesundertakenbyKPTLwhich involve seminars, talk shows,distributionof calendars, coffeetablebookandleafletsandadvertisements.

    ItisobviousthatinoureffortstosavetigerweareensuringthesafetyofourJungleandEnvironment.Largerthegreencover,betterarethechancesofgoodmonsoonleadingtoeconomicdevelopmentwhileimprovingthequalityoflifeforthesocietyatlarge.

  • In the ruralareas, themanpowerdeployedbyuscomes in regularcontactwithdifferentvillagesduringtheeachpassingdayoftheworkprogress.Asastandardpracticefollowedat KPTL, we distribute sturdy shoulder bags carrying messages about conservations ofwater,forestandwildlifeinthevernacularlanguage(Hindi)toitsworkforceworkingonthemainlineROWandaswellas to theheadof theVillagePanchayat todistributeamongstvillagersandtocarrythemessagetothelocalinhabitants.

    Ourofficials fromAdmin.Deptt. are able toholddialoguesduring such interactions andmeetsandmakepeopleat largeawareof the importanceofwater, trees, junglesand itsoccupants(wildlife).

    We also take out advertisements in various local newspapers,magazines in vernacularlanguage(Hindi).TheseadvertisementspertaintospreadingthemessagetopublicatlargeabouttheconservationofkeyElementsofnaturewater,trees,junglesandwildlife.Thisisdoneonregularbasis.Intheurbanareas,thecompanydistributesbigcutoutsofpicturesofwildlifeanimalstovariousclientsandconsultantswhichareputondisplaypermanentlyontheirpremises.Thepublicdisplayoflargeblowupsofsuchkindactsasacatalysttothethoughtprocessofpeopleworkingonthepremisesandtoallthevisitorstothepremises.In addition, regular talk showswith slide presentations conducted at strategic premisessuch as schools,museums as they are frequented by school children. This helps inachievingtheobjectivespreadingtheawarenessamongstyouth.

    InIndia,Theyear2011beganonahighnotetowardsconservationofwildlifeingeneralandTiger in particular. Tiger which has become nearly extinct with its presence in Indianumbering 1411 in 2006 and have now increased to 1706 in 2011. We at Kalpataruorganized its corporate calendar (a soft copy isattached)accompaniedbya coffeetablebookonavery special themebasedona touching story lineon theworldsoldest living

It was alsodistributedtotheRanthamboreNationalPark.VarioustalkshowshavebeenorganizedbyKPTLwhichareattendedbyschoolchildren.ThesetalkshowsorpresentationsconsistofaslideshowgivinghistoryofTigerSpecies,acatalogueandaDVDcarryingalltheinformationalongwith photographs. Because of its popularity amongst the youth, such AwarenessBuildingProgrammesarebeingconductedonregularbasis(DetailsareAnnexed).

    Thisspecial initiativebythecompanywasmuchappreciated(copiesofsomeappreciationlettersincludingthatfromtheHonbleVicePresidentofIndiaareattached).

  • b) ThemanagementofKPTL iscommittedto itsCSRActivitieswiththesoleaimtoreachout itsassignedgoalsat large thesame isevident from theenclosedpresentationonourCorporateCSRActivity.Aperusalofthepresentationandothermaterialssubmittedwill show that various CSRActivities including the Save Tiger campaign has been anongoingactivityatKPTLwhichestablishedmanagementcommitment.

    c) The various initiatives undertaken including Awareness on Forests and Tigers arecompletelyfundedbythecompany.

    d) As regard to theoutcomesandeffectiveness for the long term isconcerned,wehaveexperiencedthefollowing

    I) Initiativeofdistributionofshoulderbagscontainingrelevantmessageshasresultedingeneral awareness at the village level people. Some of the young children startedusingthebagstocarrytheirbookswhilegoingtotheschool.

    II) Initiativeoftakingoutadsinlocalnewspapersandmagazinesinvernacularlanguage(Hindi) has resulted in rural population getting associated with NGOs and suchsocietieswhoareworkinginthefieldofwildlifeandparticularlytigerconservation.

    III) Initiative of placement of large blowups ofwildlife animals at clients / consultantpremises resulted inbringingaboutamarkedchanged inpeoplesperceptionwhichbecomesevidentfromthetalksoneholdsupwiththem.

    IV) Initiative of presentation and talks amongst young children and youth has mostdefinitely resulted in bringing about a very new topic of discussions amongst theirgenerationwhichistheMajesticRoyalBengalTiger.Itisalsobeingobservedthatthevisitofyoungchildrentothetigerreservesandwildlifesanctuaryhasexperiencedasteepupwardtrendwhichisconsideredaveryhealthysign.ThiswillhaveaverylongtermeffectasonedaysoonthisyouthwilleparticipatinginNationBuilding.

    V) Initiativeofbringingoutaveryspecialcalendaralongwithacoffeetablebookfortheyear2011hasbecomeaverypopularacrosstheboard.Asamatteroffact,atotalof2500calendarsweremadeanddistributedandbythemonthofMarch2011,wearebesiegedwithdemand formanymore. Thiscalendarandparticularly its themehasspurred other corporate and organizations to follow the same path. This is a veryhealthy trendwhere largecompaniesare inclined tocontribute theirmight towardsConservationofWildlifeandTigers.

  • e) Humanity needs basic earth elements for its sustenance. Sooner we realize theimportanceof junglesbetter it is forusall. It is indeedamatterofgreat importancethatalleffortstowardsconservationmustbeundertakenonalongtermbasis.Wenotonlyhavetothinkofcurrentgenerationbutalsothefuturegenerations.Therefore,theprocessmustbeaneverendingone.Asamatteroffact,itshouldbemademandatoryforallthecorporateacrosstheworldtoplaceConservationastheveryfirstagendaontheirlistofCorporateSocialResponsibility.

    In theend, through thisaugustandeffective forumandplatformof IPLOCA, it ishumblyurgedandappealedtooneandallincontributingtowardsConservation.
