  • WORK AREA

Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas inviteaccidents.

Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite thedust or fumes.

Keep bystanders, children and visitors away while operating a power tool.Distractions can cause you to lose control.

    ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Double insulated tools are equipped with a polarized plug (one blade is widerthan the other.) This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plugdoes not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact aqualified electrician to install a polarized outlet. Do not change the plug in anyway. Double insulation eliminates the need for the three wire grounded power cordand grounded power supply system.

Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges andrefrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is grounded.

Dont expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power toolwill increase the risk of electric shock.

Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord to carry the tool or pull the plug froman outlet. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts.Replace damaged cords immediately. Damaged cords increase the risk of electricshock.

When operating the tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord marked W-Aor W.These cords are rated for outdoor use and reduce the risk of electric shock.

    PERSONAL SAFETY

Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating apower tool. Do not use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcoholor medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result inserious personal injury.

Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keepyour hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry orlong hair can be caught in moving parts.

Avoid accidental starting. Be sure switch is off before plugging in. Carrying toolswith your finger on the switch or plugging in tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

GENERAL SAFETY RULES FOR ALL ELECTRIC POWER TOOLS

READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL INSTRUCTIONS. Failure tofollow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious personal injury.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

  • SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES AND/OR SYMBOLS

Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where thecutting tool may contact hidden wiring. Contact with a live wire will also makeexposed metal parts of the tool live and shock the operator.

    IMPORTANT SAFETY RULES FOR JIGSAWS

Always wear safety goggles or other approved eye protection when using thistool. Always use an appropriate dust mask or respirator during operationswhere dust can be generated. To reduce exposure to these chemicals alwayswork in a well ventilated area. Use approved safety equipment and dust masksthat are specially manufactured to filter out microscopic particles.

Hold the Jigsaw by the insulated gripping surfaces when performing an opera-tion where the blade may contact hidden wiring or the tool power cord. Contactwith a "live" electrical wire will make exposed metal parts of the jigsaw "hot" and cre-ate a potential for electrical shock to the operator. Do not cut into existing walls orother blind areas where existing electrical wires may be present. If this situation isnecessary, remove all fuses and/or turn all circuit breakers off in the work area. Aftercuts have been completed in the blind areas, inspect to ensure that no electrical wirewas cut or nicked before reinstalling fuses and/or engaging circuit breakers.

Never leave the jigsaw with the trigger left in the locked "ON" position. Beforeplugging in the jigsaw, inspect to make sure the trigger lock is in the "OFF" posi-tion. Accidentally plugging the jigsaw in with the trigger lock engaged can result inpremature starting of the tool, which can cause damage to the tool and/or seriousinjury to the operator.

Keep hands away from the cutting area. Do not reach under material being cutwhile the jigsaw is running. Serious injury could occur. Always turn the jigsaw"OFF" before inspecting the cutting area.

Do not use dull or damaged blades with the jigsaw. Bent or damaged blades canbreak or cause a kickback resulting in serious injury to the operator. Dull blades willcause the jigsaw to perform improperly and may damage the tool.

Before starting to cut with the jigsaw, turn it "ON" and allow the blade to come tofull speed. The jigsaw can chatter or vibrate if the blade speed is too slow at the start ofthe cut. This can cause the jigsaw to kickback and damage the work area or cause injury.

Always secure working material before attempting to make a cut with the jigsaw.Never hold the material with your free hand or across your legs. Small or thin mate-rial may flex or vibrate causing loss of control and possible injury.

Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the power tool ON.A wrench or a key that is left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may resultin personal injury.

Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper footingand balance enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, non-skid safetyshoes, hard hat or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions.

    TOOL USE AND CARE

Use clamps or other practical ways to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable andmay lead to loss of control.

Do not force tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool willdo the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed.

Do not use the tool if the power switch does not turn it ON or OFF. Any tool thatcannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

Disconnect the power cord plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories or storing the tool. Such preventive safetymeasures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally.

Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools aredangerous in the hands of untrained users.

Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintainedtools with a sharp cutting edge are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and anyother condition that may affect the tools operation. If damaged, have the toolserviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools.

Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model.Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may create a risk of injury when usedon another tool.

    SERVICE

Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service ormaintenance by unqualified personnel may result in a risk of injury.

When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructionsin the Maintenance section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts or failure tofollow Maintenance Instructions could create a risk of shock or injury.

  • FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

Disconnect the power plug from the AC power sourcebefore any assembly, adjustments, or adding/removing accessories.Following this preventative step reduces the risk of the saw coming on acciden-tally and the risk of damage to the workpiece and injury to the operator.

Note: For tool specifications, refer to the nameplate on the jigsaw.

    87

Make sure all adjusting screws on the jigsaw are firmly tightened. Failure totighten the adjustment screws can cause the blade to disengage from its holderpossibly damaging the jigsaw or causing injury to the operator.

When removing the blade or other accessories from the jigsaw, avoid contactwith the skin. Always wear protective gloves when handling the jigsaw or anyaccessory. The blade can become hot after prolonged use and will cause burns.
