    General Information

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers two comprehensive programs of

study in Computer Science and Information Technology, namely, masters and doctoral programs.

There are two plans of study in the M.S. Program that are designed to suit the students need, i.e., a

thesis option and a master project option. The former is suitable for students who wish to pursue

in-depth study in computer science, thereby aiming to continue on doctoral degree. The latter, on

the other hand, is a terminal degree which is designed specifically for students who wish to

broaden the purview of computer science knowledge, thereby applying toward their career in

    computer industry.

The M.S. Program aims to corroborate the existing Ph.D. Program in Computer Science and

Information Technology, which offers start-of-the-art researches in both areas. All research

activities are conducted by the Advanced Virtual and Intelligent Computing (AVIC) Research

Center, encompassing six research groups, namely,

    1. Parallel Computing, Neural Computing, and Machine Intelligence.

    2. Image Processing, Computer Graphics, and Visualization.

    3. Software and Knowledge Engineering.

    4. Computer Networking.

    5. Computational Fluid Mechanics.

    6. Bioinformatics, Plant Modeling, and Simulation.

Based on the above research spectra, both Programs will expand the horizon of state-of-the-art

R&D activities that have already been established by the Ph.D. Program since 1999. Various

innovations and technical know-how can then be realized through master theses, master projects,

and doctoral dissertation. In addition, academic and industrial collaborations will also be

established to further enhance the potential of those innovative implementations for the benefits of

the academic and industrial communities. Career advancement will consequently be augmented.

Computing facilities are available through the department computer lab, as well as the AVIC

research center. At present, the center is fully equipped with 6 Silicon Graphics, 4 HP

workstations, and more than 30 high-end PCs.

    Admission Procedures

The academic year is divided into two semesters, namely fall and spring. Fall semester starts from

June to early October, while spring semester runs from late October to early March. Students must

register at least 9 credit hours but not to exceed 15 credit hours per semester. Application can be

filed according to the following procedures:

    1. Complete Section A of the Application Form for Graduate Admissions. 2. Have each recommender filled out Section B and mail it along with the application form. Your

application will not be considered unless all three copies of recommendation are received by

    the Department Office.

    3. Pay the 1,000 Baht application fee (see Fees and Other Charges Section) 4. Have your TOEFL/IELTS or Chulalongkorn University (CU) Language Institute (CU-TEP)

test score sent directly to Graduate Studies in Computer Science, Department of Mathematics

and Computer Science. You may arrange to take the test through your local TOEFL/IELTS

test centers or CU Language Institute, respectively.

    5. Submit an official transcript from your school(s) to the Graduate Studies, Faculty of Science. If you are graduating and have not yet received a complete transcript, you must submit a final

transcript upon graduation or completion of the first semester.
