Learning to Learn Learning words/ phrases/ texts by heart and having fun along the way! Slide 2 A)To learn the of single words/ short phrases: Use scraps of paper/ card/ post-it notes to make: Lehrer teacher Slide 3 B) To learn the of single words/ short phrases: Continue to use turn & learn cards and: niech Lehrerherelr Slide 4 c) To learn longer phrases/ extended sentences by heart: 1) Use Ich mag der Lehrer i m d L Slide 5 or 2)Cover over sections of the sentence, starting at the end and increasing in length, until you can say/ write it from memory, looking only at the first word. Slide 6 D) To learn a whole paragraph by heart: 1)Know what you want to say and use a series of symbols/ simple pictures to remind you: Ich mag der Lehrer weil er sehr hilfsbereit ist. Turn 3) T t y s I I l s/ I w a p b t b u I a p.Then Slide 8 E) To learn a whole text/ presentation by heart: 1)Know how many paragraphs are in the text and the main idea in each paragraph. 2)Transfer the whole text, as a series of numbered paragraphs and sentences made only of initial letter strings/ first or key words, onto a small piece of paper/card. Slide 9 3) Carry this cue card around in your pocket/ pin it up somewhere prominent at home and use it to practise saying your full text several times a day. Slide 10 A)To learn the meaning of single words/ short phrases: match-up cards turn & learn cards B) To learn the spelling of single words/ short phrases: Look-Say-Cover-Write-Check anagrams/ unjumbles C) To learn longer phrases/ extended sentences by heart: initial letter strings cover up sections of the sentence, starting from the end D) To learn a whole paragraph/ whole text by heart: symbols reduce text to series of initial letter strings/ key words on cue card & say aloud regularly
