    ThefollowingEdTechTeacherproposalisforDigitalLiteracyandWritinginaDigitalClassroomandisdesignedtoprovideBrevardDistrictwithaprofessionaldevelopmentprogramtoimprovedigitalwritinginstructionandwritingpracticeinschools. TheproposedworkshopsbelowaredesignedtoprovideBrevardteacherswithspecificunderstandingandhandsonexperienceintegratingwebbasedtools,apps,extensions,andsoftwaretoimprovedigitalliteracyandwritinglessonformulation,lessonimplementationandevaluationsofstudentlearningoutcomes. HerearesuggestedworkshopstoengageBrevardteachersindigitalliteracyandwritingexploration:DigitalStorytelling:Digitalstorytelling,inthebroadestsense,isaboutweavingtogethernarrative,imagery,voiceandmusicintomediarichpresentations.Inthissession,wewillexamineexamplesofsuccessfulprojectsincludingidentitynarratives,oralhistories,socialissuedocumentaries,languageactivities,andpresentationsofartandmusic.Wewilllookatpopulardigitalstorytellingwebsites,appsandextensionsandexaminebestusestrategies.Classroomexamplesincorporatetoolssuchasvideo,blogs,graphicnovels,andonlinesocialnetworks,andengendercreativityandcommunity.(thiscanbedesignedforElementaryorSecondary)Reading,Writing&ResearchintheDigitalClassroomAcrosscontentareas,reading,writing,andresearchsitattheheartofmiddleandhighschoolcurricula.WhetherstudentshaveiPads,Chromebooks,orlaptops,thepotentialexiststotransformtheseprocessesinordertotakeadvantageoftheavailabletools.UsingtheTIMSmodelasaframeworkforourdiscussion,wewilllookathowthesecorelearningtaskscanbeenhancedandreinventedwithnewtechnology.*ReadingEachdeviceoffersahostoftools,features,andappstoscaffoldandenhancethereadingprocess.WewillexploreoptionsforPDFannotation,activereadingwitheBooks,collaborativereading,aswellascontentcreationanddisseminationtosupportreadinginstruction.*WritingFrombrainstormingandmindmappingtorevisingandpublishing,wewillexaminewaystoenhanceandevolveyourexistingwritingandnotetakingprocesseswithGoogleDocs

  • andthecapabilitiesofyourstudents'devices.Fromcollaborativewritingandeditingtomultimediafeedback,wewillexplorehowyoucanmodifytheprocessandtheproduct.*ResearchMobiledevicesgivestudentsinstantaccesstodigitalcontent,collaborativeannotationtools,aswellasthepotentialtosharefindingswithaglobalaudience.Buildingoffoftheprocessesdefinedduringthefirsttwophasesoftheworkshop,participantswilldesignandplanaresearchprojectfortheirstudentstoengageinduringtheupcomingschoolyear.(Secondary)CollaborativeWritingWhatdoesadigitallyconnectedclassroomlooklikeandwhatdoesitdo?Thisworkshopisforeducatorswhowanttoincorporateactivecollaborationlocal,regional,national,orinternationalintheirpedagogy.Theworkshopadoptsbothatheoreticalandhandsonapproachwithexampleshighlightinginquirybasedandresearchorientedwritingprojectsandcommunicationactivities.FromGoogleDocsforcollaborationtoGoogleSitesforpublishingaswellasvariousothertoolsandappswewillexploreawiderangeofwaystousetechnologytoredefinecollaborativelearningandinspireyourstudentscuriosityandcreativity.Participantswilldevelopdigitalliteracyskills,usevariousmediatoinitiatecollaborativelearning,andexploreonlinesourcesforresourcesandteachingideas.(thiscanbedesignedforElementaryorSecondary)ManagingWorkflowinaDigitalWritingClassroomInthishandsonworkshop,participantswilldiscovernewwaystoorganizetheirdigitalworldsutilizingthepowerfultoolsofGoogleDriveandGoogleChrome.Ifyoucanansweryestoanyofthefollowingquestions,thenthisworkshopisforyou:

  • multimodaldevicesthatallowstudentstocommunicateandcreate,aswellasdevelopingapedagogyandcurriculumthatencouragesingenuity,wecanreinforceaprocessoflearningthatcraftsinnovativeandminds.Thishandsonworkshophighlightscreativeeducationalusesandshowshowteacherscanemployitasaportablemediacreationdevice.Adoptingacollectrelatecreatedonateframework,thissessionwillfocusonwhatstudentsandteacherscanfromcreatingaudio,video,andscreencaststocraftingdigitalreportsandcollaborativepublications.Onceeducatorsfocusoncreativelearningpotential,theycanstarttocultivateasmallsetofwebtoolsandEvergreenAppsintoalmostlimitlessinstructionalpossibilitiesforspeaking,writing,listening,drawing,annotating,curating,collaborating,sharing,andmore.NotAnotherPaper!AlternativeStudentCommunicationProjectsJoininreviewingalternativeactivitiesandprojectsusinginteractivetechnologiesandseehowonlinemediaandappscanhelpempowerstudentcenteredlearning.Bytheendoftheworkshopparticipantswillbeableto:1.describethequalitiesofeffectivealternativeactivitiesandassessment2.explainhowpowerfulactivitiesemergefromwellchosenessentialquestions3.identifyseveralRead/WriteWeb,socialmediatools,andappsthatcanbeusedtocreatealternativeactivities.(ElementaryorcouldbecustomizedforSecondary)ComingtoaClassroomNearYou:3DNetworkedTextbooksExploringtheFutureofEducationalResourcesThisworkshopisdesignedtoexploreneartermdevelopmentsineducationaltechnologythatwilltransformclassroomsofthe21stcentury.First,educationalpublishersareactivelysurpassingtheaffordancesofprintwithavarietyoftechnologiesandinnovations,including3Dsimulations,embeddedvideos,interactivemapsandphotos,formativequizzes,readingandwritingaids,theabilitytosharenotesandbookmarks,audiocommentaries,regularlyupdatedandsearchablecontent,music,etc.allwithonesfingersonatablet.Second,augmentedrealityispoisedtochangethewaystudentsviewandinteractwitheducationalcontent.Pictureastudentsittinginaclassroomandalternatelywatchingacivilrightseravideo,listeningtoMartinLutherKing's"IHaveaDreamSpeech,"examininganhistoricalcalendarofevents,andreadingaprimarysource,simplypointinghermobiledeviceatvariousdesignatedpointsintheroom.Asclassroomtextbooksbecomenotonlydigital,butsociallyconnectedwiththeabilitytointeractonlineinrealtime,willtheybecomeourprincipallearningmanagementsystemcompletewithdiscussionforums,electronicportfolios,andegradebooks?WiththeemergenceofiBooksAuthorandotherapplications,willschoolsnowstartcreatingtheirowntextbooksandreaders?So,willclassroomsbecomeincreasinglyimmersedinaworldofdevices,apps,andbrowser?Orwillschoolsoptfor"opensource"textbooksandotherereaders?Mightschoolsinsteadbecomeensconcedina"cloud"ofvirtualandaugmentednetworksdominatedbyjustaboutbringingnewtechnologiesintoclassrooms.Participateinbothaconceptualandpracticalexplorationofdigitalagepublicationtoolsandprocesses.
